Prepare your site for translation

Before we can begin translating your website, there are a few things you need to do to prepare it for translation.

  1. Make sure your site meets the minimum requirements for the WPML plugins to work.
  1. Install the appropriate plugins for your website. There is a quick and easy installer that will detect the components you need and install them for you. This installer is available on the WPML website and is called OTGS Installer.

If you choose to install them manually:

  • For a Multilingual CMS or Multilingual Agency account, you will need WPML Multilingual CMS and WPML String Translation plugins.
  • For a Multilingual Blog account, you only have access to the WPML Multilingual CMS plugin.
  1. Install any add-ons that you need.

Once the WPML core and add-ons are installed, you will go through a setup wizard where you choose the languages and translation methods that you need.

Connect your website to Language Insight

Once you’re set up and your account is registered, let us know and we will supply you with a token that you can enter on your site to connect to us.

On your Plugins list, navigate to WPML > Translation Management and then to the Translators tab. Scroll down to Translation Services, search for Language Insight and press Activate

On the next window, press the Authenticate button. On the window that pops up, enter the token that we have given you and press Submit.

Select your languages

On the Plugins list, navigate to WPML > Languages. This is where you choose the languages that you want to display on your site. You need to do this step before you can select the content for translation.

Click on Add/Remove languages and select the languages you want to add. By default, the site language is already activated and cannot be removed on this screen. Click Save

Choose your content for translation

Head back to WPML > Translation Management, go to the Dashboard tab and select the pages, posts and other content that you want to translate.

Underneath the table, you will be shown an estimated word count. Bear in mind that this is just an estimate of the word count for your content and once we have reviewed the files, we will confirm the final amount in our quote.

When you’ve selected the content for translation, add it to your translation basket.

A new tab called Translation Basket will show up where you can add a suggested deadline. Ensure the Translator is marked as Language Insight, and then press Send all items for translation. This sends the files to us for quotation.

The Jobs tab shows you all the files and batches of files that you’ve sent over for translation, and the status of those that have already been worked on.

Working on a translation project

Quotation

We will analyse the files that you’ve submitted and prepare a quotation for you which you will receive by email. The quotation will include the cost and expected turnaround time for the project as well as a link to our terms and conditions.

If you’re happy to go ahead, let us know and we’ll get started.

Receiving completed translations
When we’ve finished translating the files, we will return them through WPML and they will be delivered straight to your website.

You can choose whether these pages are automatically delivered to your site, or if you would like to manually fetch them from your WordPress admin panel. Go to WPML > Settings > Multilingual Content Setup and scroll down to Translation pickup mode

Translation Service will deliver translations automatically using XML-RPC means that the translations will be delivered to your website as soon as they are complete.

The site will fetch translations manually means that the translations can be downloaded from the Dashboard (WPML > Translation Management > Dashboard)

Cancelling translation jobs

You cannot manually cancel or delete jobs from the Translation Jobs tab. Instead, please contact us to discuss the changes you want to make. We can cancel the jobs from our side.
