Language Insight is a fast-growing translation and language services provider. Our experienced teams work on projects covering a wide range of sectors, and are dedicated to delivering high-quality translation, transcription, interpreting and various other language solutions to clients all over the world.


After four consecutive years of sales growth and the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade in 2019, we are now looking for a Junior Software Engineer to join our Operations Team. The Junior Software Engineer will support the Operations Team within the company, mainly helping with designing, developing, and maintaining new technology programs and software.


Salary starting from: £24K+per annum based on experience.

This role is remote-based in the UK, however, we do have offices in Preston and London if candidates would prefer to work at the office. Please note: right to work in the UK is required for this role and there will be no Visa sponsorship available.


What does the role involve?

Working closely with our Systems Architect, an ongoing AI-based software development project will be the primary initial focus of this role. As the company grows and the project matures, the role will evolve to encompass other tasks and projects. There will also be times when you will be required to take on other tech-related tasks to support your colleagues.


As part of this role, you will:

  • Set up, monitor and maintain servers for test and production environments (LINUX and Windows locally and AWS remote servers).
  • Carry out comprehensive software testing and reporting, making use of automation testing where needed.
  • Proactively suggest new ideas and features for existing software developments and potential future projects.
  • Plan development and testing sprints to ensure regular software release cycles are delivered on time.
  • Keep up to date with technology advances, in particular in relation to NLP, LLMs, AI and Machine Learning.
  • Record supporting evidence of development plans and bug testing for ISO requirements.
  • Carry out ad-hoc tasks involving other coding skills such as APIs, RegEx and relational database scripting.

What skills are needed for this role? [Essential]

  • 2 years of working with programming and scripting languages: Python, JavaScript. A good knowledge of or willingness to learn Perl is a bonus.
  • Working knowledge of web languages: HTML, CSS.
  • Server administration and management (particularly LINUX and AWS instances).
  • LLM creation and maintenance.
  • At least 1 year of working with Artificial Intelligence.
  • Software testing, bug filtering, verification and reporting.
  • Ability to work under pressure and within deadlines.
  • Excellent written English and communication skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Data science and analysis.
  • REST/SOAP APIs.
  • RegEx.
  • Writing, testing and deploying relational database scripts.
